Islandaire – Notice of U.S. DOE Noncompliance

Hotels University was just presented a Notice of Noncompliance letter from U.S. Department of Energy (DOE Case Number: 2015-SE-43007) in which the DOE has discovered that some Islandaire models do not comply with applicable U.S. energy code standards.

The U.S. DOE tested eight Islandaire PTAC (EZ4209B and EZDR09B) and demonstrated that the basic model is not in compliance with the applicable U.S. energy conservation standards.  The U.S. minimum permissible energy efficiency ratio (EER) for this model of PTACs is 11.3 and the eight units tested with the following EERs:  10.64, 10.94, 10.64, 11.19, 10.72, 9.83, 10.5, and 10.57.

Islandaire has been provided with a list of mandatory actions including ceasing distribution of all units of the basic model and immediately providing written notification of noncompliance to all persons whom they’ve distributed units.  We understand that major hotel franchises have already been notified of the notice and Hilton has already recommended that Islandaire products be prohibited from installation in Hilton properties until the case is resolved with the Department of Energy.

The full notice including mandatory and optional actions by Islandaire can be found on the DOE’s site here:  DOE Case Number: 2015-SE-43007
